CHAPTER FIVE
Clark lay there for the longest time, trying his best to ignore the heavy presence of Bishop. A part of him wanted to lash out and tell Bishop to get the fuck away and never come back. There was another part, one that Clark was trying hard to ignore, that was actually taking comfort from Bishop’s presence.
Despite all common sense, Clark felt safe around his new Alpha. Not so much with the sex part. There was no way he could trust any male. Not with as many times that he’d been burned. But that didn’t mean Clark couldn’t trust Bishop as an Alpha. Which some would probably argue was an oxymoron, but Clark’s mind was so messed up, that was all he could go with for the moment.
When Angel came in, carrying a tray of food, Clark let out a sigh of relief. With somebody else in the room, maybe the tension would ebb away some.
“What is Baily doing to get rid of that drug they gave him?” Bishop demanded immediately.
“Right now we’re giving him a ton of saline solution via IV in hopes that it will flush the drug out of his system,” Angel replied. “Baily hopes that, combined with regular, healthy meals, will help speed things up.”
When Angel put the food on the bedside tray, Clark almost let out a whimper. The food, even though it was just a basic sandwich and salad, looked so good that he wanted to pounce on it. Bishop stood up and pulled the table close to Clark.
Clark picked up the sandwich and bit into it. The flavors were so strong that it almost hurt. It was worth it, though; it tasted so much better than the crap that they threw his way while he was in prison.
Angel pointed at Bishop. “Make sure he eats it. The more nutrition he gets, the sooner he’ll heal.”
Angel checked on Clark’s IV, took some vitals, then left the room. At that point, Clark didn’t care about being alone with Bishop. All that mattered to him was the food in front of him.
To Clark’s dismay, he found himself full when he’d only eaten half the sandwich. He sat it down and slumped back on the bed.
“Oh no, you don’t. You heard Angel, you have to eat all of it,” Bishop admonished.
Clark shook his head. “I can’t.”
“Sit up.”
While he wanted to rebel, Clark did so. In the end, Bishop was his Alpha and Clark was duty bound to obey his orders. This time when Clark moved, it didn’t hurt nearly as much as it had just hours ago. Hope flared in him that it might be a sign that his Dire Wolf was coming home. Clark reached out, but, as usual, he received no response from his animal side. Then again, why should he expect any more, Bern had taken everything he had and there was no getting it back. All Clark could do was hope that he could recover from his wounds and move forward as he was.
